Transport of feed materials in Europe – what you need to know?

Transport of feed materials, such as bone meal, soybean meal, animal fats, or mineral additives, is a task that requires not only logistical experience but also knowledge of the strict veterinary regulations in force in the European Union. In an industry where cleanliness, punctuality, and proper documentation matter, every detail counts — from the loading method to the hygiene conditions of the trailer.

In the case of animal-derived feed materials, such as bone meal or technical fats, the carrier must have the appropriate permits and entries in the register of entities supervised by the Veterinary Inspection. Regular cleanliness checks of tanks and silos are also required, and thorough disinfection is mandatory after each unloading.

Transporting this type of cargo on international routes, for example between Poland and Germany or France, also requires compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 1069/2009, which sets out the rules for the transport of animal by-products (ABP).
